WWDX member “Handy Andy” of CBTricks declares Mikes Radio Repair “reinvented the wheel” [Updated]

There is no secret that this “Handy Andy” person on WWDX has a disdain for anyone that downplays mods. He is a mod person that he himself I have been told “reinvented the wheel” with clarifier mods but that doesn’t stop him from trying to discredit or downplay the work of others.

So, Handy Andy, what is “your point”?
You think that any information we get that points out snake oil modifications should be put down. What a jerk.

Link to forum thread (they seem to be working again)

Update: Let the backpedaling commence! Seems he pissed off a few people, or realized that he did and now wants to tone it down.

  1. I know it’s in the interest of views but that’s not exactly what he meant. And Andy isn’t against mods, he’s posted hundreds if not thousands of diagrams and detailed directions on how to do certain mods. And that’s whether he agrees with it or not. And yes, I’m biased towards Andy in his favor.

Now if we were talking about our favorite turd here, I’d be all in on it and agree he was blowing smoke up the wrong Indians ass. But not Andy… he has been a target before and I think you’re off the mark just a bit.

  2. Holy crap, 30 years since I left the CB bands and that myth is still parting fools and their money, bust like it used to in the trucker CB shops in the eighties.

Dudes on that thread at WWDX (presumably without any proper test gear) are swearing the mod reduced the noise in their Galaxy. As the guy in the video correctly pointed out, he could have got exactly the same result by turning his volume or RF gain control down a bit.

Do they still praise the benefits on swing kits and range boosting antenna polish on that forum too?

  3. Sigh…again something taken out of context. If you re-read that thread you’ll see a two-fold problem. One is the level of understanding for the technology of previous generations and the newer replacements of a new generation of manufacturing is supplying and the other fold is the towards the newer radio enthusiasts that do not fully understand the mod in question and how to apply it.
Never was a slant to Mike – I have the highest respect and regards for him. For the phrase “reinvent the wheel” means just that – a new generation of repair techs that don’t understand what the thread was about, and for Mikes’ own ability to have to go down to that level – and hence his frustration – and demonstrate how to properly apply these newer parts arriving as replacements for the older technology. Again reinventing the wheel, for many simply did not know what That “the wheel” references Diode, is for, and he describes it very well and we at WWDX elaborated from that. Please don’t presume every post or reply to someone’s Video is a complaint – in fact, it is a warning – for what we are seeing as replacement parts , may be numbered the same – but are not constructed of the same base material – a word of caution for the rest of us. Don’t believe me? Look for and re-read that thread. Then do your research and decide.
